Pam and steve all of the streets were opened just after 9 this evening when the evacuation orders were dropped. That being said there is still work that is taking place on the roof of this building in this distance. You cant see the work from this angle but you can see the lights that are on. There were a number of different stories about what happened out there today but heres what fire crews are saying tonight. They got a call after workers from the building youre looking at alerted them that a strut used to hold up a platform gave away on the top of the building. That platform then began leaning at a 15 degree angle. There is a 30 ton concrete pump on the platform that was being used. There were fears that something could fall off. Streets were closed off and 16 buildings evacuated. Fire crews say the platform and the pump are both secure tonight. I asked crewswhy all the stories. For how much rain we are expecting to see today here is James Fletcher. Toss to weather or traffic heavy rain moves through the area during the Early Morning hours, primarily impacting commuters between 3am and 6am. After that, rain should become lighter and more scattered. This will be the first of several storm system to impact us over the next 7 days. The next round of rain starts friday morning with showers lingering into saturday. Then, a brief dry spell through sunday. Next front arrives sunday night into monday with rain lasting through wednesday. We can expect anywhere from 3 to 4 inches of rain between now and next wednesday. They look through every room and we actually had a signal to evacuate with the fire burned as long as a hazard because of dangers to our Fire Fighters. James this is video from earlier in the evening. James the fire was contained by about 11 30 last night. James all 6 of the injured suffered only minor injuries. James the building burned housed both apartments and businesses. James again nearly 60 people were displaced by this fire. 9 of them children. James the red cross was on scene to help the families find another place to spend the night. James and the people who live in that building are obviously devestated by what happeend. James we spoke with one man who lives in that building with five other family members. James and he says he is just thankful they all made it out okay. It was our part and it was our house. That alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as factors in the incident. One kayaker is dead. Another rescued after an accident in marin county. This video is from our helicopter partnership with a bc 7 news. According to police. Two men set out for a kayacking trip this afternoon from nicks cove. But ended up in a treacherous rocky area near dillon beach. Witnesses reported the kayakers hit the rocks around 4 30 this afternoon. Wave runners and boats searched the waters. They found one kayaker. A 55 year old man from sonoma county. Dead in the water. And transported him to shore. Paramedics treated the other man at scene. And he was then released. Caught in the act and caught on camera. Burglars in antioch. Stopped in their tracks after a neighbor reports suspicious activity at a home just in the nick of time.
