Al s Plaice a takeaway and home delivery service through Uber during lockdown Allan is offering takeaway and home delivery service through Uber but says the town centre is really quiet. Footfall in the shopping centre has dropped drastically, said Allan, who employs 10 people. It is really hard at the moment. Around 60 per cent of the shops are shut so people aren t coming into town. It costs a considerable amount of gas and electric to keep the business open along with wages and other costs. Some days I m working for nothing or at a loss. I ve put a couple of staff on furlough but I m trying to give the others as many hours as I can. If we re quiet I shut 30 mins early to save that little bit of cost.
