Head-to-head: Vasilije Micic vs Kostas Sloukas

Feb 17, 2021 by Euroleague.net Print One of the most played duels since the turn of the millennium has been Anadolu Efes Istanbul versus Olympiacos Piraeus. Olympiacos eliminated Efes in unforgettable five-games playoff series in 2013 and 2017 and holds a 21-20 edged in games against the Turkish powerhouse. Efes, however, has won its last four games against the Reds and hosts Olympiacos on Thursday. Playmakers Vasilije Micic of Efes and Kostas Sloukas of Olympiacos are determined to play a big role in this game. Micic, 27, is a young veteran in his seventh EuroLeague campaign. Sloukas, 31, has been to six EuroLeague championship games and lifted the trophy in half of them – with Olympiacos in 2012 and 2013 and with Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul in 2017.

Game of the Week: Two teams that know turnarounds

Jan 21, 2021 by Frank Lawlor, Euroleague.net Print You can look at the Game of the Week on Thursday between host Zenit St Petersburg and visiting Anadolu Efes Istanbul as a sneak peek at where the race to reach the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs might be headed A year ago at this same juncture in the schedule, Zenit shared last place in the standings while Efes was firmly ensconced in first. This time around, Efes (11-9) is looking up at Zenit (12-6), as has been the case since the former started the season 1-3 and the latter 4-0. Although Zenit has in some ways been the season s biggest surprise, along with FC Bayern Munich (12-8), in other ways absolutely no one should be surprised that any team coached by Xavi Pascual is in the thick of the playoffs race in the crucial winter months of the competition. Indeed, the opposite would be an aberration.

He currently has career averages of 11.5 points and 4.6 rebounds in 143 EuroLeague games.
