“I’m grateful to be a part of this community where people believe in the amazing work of the United Way and to join the long line of other incredible Bartholomew County Advocates of the Year,” Carr said.
United Way Volunteer Action Center Director Alicia Monroe announced the award during UWBC’s virtual annual meeting. It recognizes those who “use their voice to educate and empower fellow community members to get involved.”

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County residents who need assistance paying for health insurance may qualify for help through the Premium Link Bartholomew County Program if their household income is less than 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines and they have health coverage through Marketplace Silver Plan or HIP Plus.
“Premium Link Bartholomew County ensures residents have access to health care by not allowing the cost to get in the way of their health,” said Alicia Monroe, United Way of Bartholomew County Volunteer Action Center Director.
The Premium Link Bartholomew County Program, a United Way service, helped 92 individuals in 2020. ); } return false; }); $( #comments .commentlist .comment-content a ).attr( target , blank );

Shop with a cop set for Sunday
Just like most nonprofits, the holiday charity known as Shop With A Cop is facing tough challenges this year.
As of Wednesday, 126 children were scheduled to go on shopping sprees this weekend with law enforcement officers, according to Alicia Monroe, coordinator of the Volunteer Action Center. That is a slight decrease from last year, she said.
Sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge #89, Shop With A Cop begins at 12:30 p.m. Sunday inside the west side Walmart, 2025 Merchant Mile.
All participants will be required to wear masks, as well as comply with any other regulations or precautions the store management requests, lodge president Alan Trisler said.
