The Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday that its top safety official will retire at the end of June. Ali Bahrami had come under sharp criticism from lawmakers and relatives of passengers who died in the crashes of two Boeing 737 Max jets, who accused him of being too cozy with Boeing.

More than 900 family members and friends who lost loved ones in the March 2019 crash of a B737 MAX jet in Ethiopia have demanded that US president Joe Biden and Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg remove administrator Steven Dickson, Safety director Ali Bahrami and other top leaders at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
“I trust that the Biden Administration will do the right thing,” said Robert Clifford of Clifford Law Offices of Chicago, lead counsel of the litigation involving the crash of the jet.
