Nigeria generated $150m from coconut oil in 2020 Minister

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono, says Nigeria generated 150 million dollars from the export of coconut oil and its derivatives in 2020.
Nanono said this on Wednesday during the training of coconut farmers organised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FEMARD) in collaboration with Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) in Benin.
The minister, represented by Mr Bernard Ukattah, Deputy Director, FEMARD, said that coconut was a major non-oil export foreign exchange earner for Nigeria.
He explained that coconut provided livelihood for more than 500,000 families, mostly women and youths in the country.

FG approves upgrading of 4 national soil, water laboratories, to international standard Minister

The Federal Government has said that it planned to upgrade four national soil and water laboratories in the country, to the standard of the International Center for Research in Agro Forestry (ICRAF).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the four national soil and water laboratories to be upgraded are located in Ibadan, Umudike, Kaduna and Abuja.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammad Nanono disclosed this at the opening of the National workshop on soil survey and soil fertility mapping, on Tuesday, in Abuja.

FG charges NIAS on proffering solution to herders/farmers conflict

The Federal Government, Friday, charged the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science, NIAS, on proffering solutions to the incessant herders/farmers conflict threatening food availability, affordability, and security.
The charge was given by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohammed Nanono, at the inauguration of the 5th Council of NIAS in Abuja.
According to Nanono, the Prof. Abubakar-led Council is replete with men and women of quality to serve as a driving force and motivation to the management of the Institute to consolidate on the achievements of the past, and continue to deliver on the mandates of the Institute to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the agenda of the government on food security.
