Exclusive: Ride musical to play two West End performances

Today In Johnson City History: May 14

May 14, 1869: The Union Flag reported, “In this place on the 11th inst., Mrs. Dennis, aged 35 yrs. Daughter of Dr. J.C. Cossen, deceased.” As used here, “inst”, was a term used to mean “In the same month”, so this meant that Mrs. Dennis had passed away on May 11, 1869. The Union Flag was a newspaper published in Jonesborough, which was spelled that way at the time. May 14, 1903: The Chattanooga News, with a Johnson City dateline, reported on a near-riot in Johnson City. “Johnson City has had a narrow escape from a serious riot. The trouble originated in a fight on the midway. ‘Buss’ Hale, a well known character of this place, became involved in a difficulty with Joseph A. Sanborn, an attaché of one of the carnival shows. As a result Hale stabbed the showman, the knife inflicting a painful wound near the heart which is about four inches long and two inches deep.”

Review of The Sorrows of Satan: A musical play

The Sorrows of Satan: A musical play by Luke Bateman and Michael Conley May 6, 2021 Last updated: May 6, 2021 It’s an intricate plot, laced with some subversive humour – that the female character is simply called ‘The Woman’ (Molly Lynch), for instance, is itself a kind of commentary on how women were treated a century ago. There is an objection to some of the more overtly misogynistic lyrics (in the show within the show), arguably from a surprising source, but the discussions around what could or should be sacrificed to make a show more appealing have some contemporary applicability. THE SORROWS OF SATAN – Michael Conley (Prince Lucio Rimânez) Luke Bateman (Geoffrey Tempest) Stefan Bednarczyk (Amiel) Molly Lynch (Lady Sybil Elton) – Photo by Jane Hobson.

Review: 'Sweat' by Western CT State University Theatre Dept.

Reply DANBURY, CT - The Western CT State University Department of Theatre Arts opened their Spring Virtual Production Series with the play SWEAT, written by Lynn Nottage. The production was directed and adapted to the screen by Tim Howard. Since the series is scheduled to include four productions, I was surprised to discover that this was a fully-staged version of the play, convincingly acted by the WCSU students. I was expecting The editing of the stream may not have been flawless, but overall it was very, very good, making the two acts a pleasure for me to watch.twice, actually.

Major David Clarke's COVID-19 deployment

April 15, 2021 Major David Clarke CVO, ADC may well be among Barbados’ little known but highly accomplished and decorated citizens. Yet, this military man, who has been given the mammoth assignment of co-coordinating the vaccination of Barbados’ population against COVID-19, remains quite reserved about his achievements. The high-ranking officer of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) paused his hectic schedule recently to speak to COVID Weekly about the COVID-19 vaccination programme which he leads along with Dr Elizabeth Ferdinand. Interrupted several times by telephone calls, he responded to each with measured tones, before seamlessly resuming his interview. This, he explained, was typical of his daily routine, even before the logistical public health mission was added to his long list of tasks.
