|April 5, 2021 at 6:08 AM EDT - Updated April 19 at 8:15 AM SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Friends of Forsyth and the city of Savannah are asking for feedback from the community on the future of Forsyth Park. The Friends of Forsyth group currently has a survey on its website for the public to choose which design and amenities they would like to see used in the upgrade and remodeling of the park. The final two designs come from input from over 2,000 Savannahians from an earlier survey. Their main focus is to preserve the natural beauty of the park while relieving tensions between pedestrians and wheeled vehicles.

WTOC spoke with one elected Savannah leader who’s dealing with the train problem in his district about what solutions could be on the horizon.

City of Savannah launches app for 311 service

City of Savannah launches app for 311 service City of Savannah launches app for 311 service By Sean Evans | January 15, 2021 at 2:49 PM EST - Updated January 15 at 8:06 PM SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah’s 311 service recently launched an app for iPhone and Android that offers a number of resources, from checking on garbage schedules to paying utilities. A technology upgrade like this to make city services more accessible for folks on the go is something 4th District Alderman Nick Palumbo said last year he really wanted to see come to fruition. “A lot has changed in the 20 years since we’ve had that 311 system. And we needed new technology and an app to connect with people where they are,” Alderman Palumbo said.

Savannah City Council has rocky -- but somewhat effective -- 2020

Savannah’s new slate of elected officials were all smiles at their inauguration ceremony on Jan. 2, 2020.  Almost one year later, that same group couldn’t all get together for a Christmas card photo at Savannah City Hall.  Hopes were high for what could be accomplished by this new group. The council had seven new members, five of whom defeated incumbents for their seats. The new council had managed a historic first with the election of seven African Americans, including five Black women. The group, along with the new mayor, was committed to progressive change in the city, voicing a people-centered agenda in contrast to the business-first approach of the previous council.
