Galesburg Aldermen on Monday night had on first reading of rezoning the property that housed St. Mary's Square. The developer, KXZ Properties, LLC is proposing a phased renovation of the entire building, resulting in a mix of business offices, residential units, and potentially a restaurant. City administration says the property has sat vacant and underutilized since 2013, and they are proposing a change to B3 zoning. The purpose of the B3 zoning district is intended for these kinds of uses, customarily expected to be in a downtown type environment. Planning and Zoning and recommended approval of the item in February. Alderman Dwight White asked if the company doesn't end up developing would the zoning change to B3 remain in effect. City Manager Todd Thompson says it would remain B3, but that he always encourages the council to zone based on what they think is good for a property and neighborhood.
Galesburg City Council on Monday approved a facility use agreement with District 205. A similar agreement has been in place for a long time, that allows the City to use various school gyms for programs while District 205 can use various City facilities for school functions. The biggest change is with respect to the maintenance of the tennis courts at Galesburg High School. This agreement provides for ongoing maintenance responsibility. Currently, City Manager Todd Thompson says the agreement is unclear when it comes to things like replacing lights and mending fences. Thompson says the City sees this as an effort to be cooperative partners with District 205. Thompson says the District has plans in the near future to replace the tennis courts surface. Alderman Dwight White says this is a "great collaboration" between the City and District 205, as they work together to "improve and maintain" neighborhoods.
The Galesburg Election Commission s proposed redistricting shows the central and southwest portions losing the most population. The northwest area of the city, however, showed moderate growth over the past 10 years.

Hillery was not present for the meeting.
This is Hillery s third arrest of the year and her second pending felony.
This prompted Knox County Board member Pam Davidson, who lives in the Ward 3 council member’s district, to call for her resignation during the public comment section of the meeting.
“I know you might have spoken to her to (tell her to) step down, but if you haven’t, I’m publicly asking as someone who lives in that ward. She needs to step down,” Davidson said.
Davidson said if Hillery does not step down, she will start a petition.
