One Succumbs to Cold, One Missing, and One Survives in Chignik Lake Capsize Saturday Afternoon

AST revealed that five Chignik Lake residents were rescued while one body was recovered and one remains missing after a tragic Saturday afternoon incident there.
At 3:16 pm on Saturday afternoon, Fairbanks troopers were alerted that a skiff with three aboard had capsized while transporting a snow machine on its bow after encountering a wave as it transited to the north side of the lake.
The small watercraft floated for approximately a half-hour after it capsized with 24-year-old Taylor Lind, 42-year-old Fred Shangin, and 39-year-old Nicholas Garner aboard. After the capsize, Lind was able to reach the ice and self-rescue, but, Shangin, who could not get off the skiff, succumbed to the cold while atop the bottom of the craft. Troopers report that a warrant has been issued and they are actively searching for a Wasilla suspect that escaped arrest after a violent incident that took place on Sunday night on Phenix Avenue in Wasilla.
The stabbing incident was called in to troopers at 8:31 pm on December 27th from the Phenix address and troopers responded to the scene to open an investigation into the incident. According to the investigation, 29-year-old Michael Flores, during an altercation, hit his girlfriend in the side of the head with a blunt object.
Palmer Suspect Ambushes Troopers, Police during Christmas Domestic Disturbance Call
Alaska State Troopers, on Monday released the names of the trooper and Wasilla Police Department officer involved in the Christmas Day officer-involved shooting that injured a Palmer suspect who opened fire on them during a response to a shots-fired call at just after midnight.
The identities of the two enforcement personnel were revealed as Trooper Caleb Lloyd and WPD officer Nate Lecours. Both are three-year veterans in their respective agencies.
MATCOM received a call from a female caller at 12:23 am on December 25th reporting a domestic disturbance. The caller soon stopped communicating with the dispatcher but left the line open. Soon, the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Joseph Frantz, was heard in the background saying he was going to kill the caller as a shot rang out.
