May 30—The 44th Alabama Jubilee had to scrub its balloon race Saturday morning because of windy conditions, but festivalgoers still shopped for arts and crafts, enjoyed entertainment and admired fancy cars, tractors and motorcycles. The weekend event at Point Mallard Park drew steady crowds throughout the day in its return after being canceled by the pandemic in 2020. The festival resumes .
Decatur Balloon Festival 2021: Alabama Jubilee on Memorial Day weekend features hot air balloons and ends Sunday with a fireworks spectacular show at 9:45 p.m.
Although the pandemic is not over, festivals and events are starting to make their way back across Alabama, bringing entertainment and family fun to Memorial Day weekend and the first weekend of June.

Decatur, Ala., April 27, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) More than 50 big beautiful hot-air balloons will fill the sky above Decatur, Ala., the last weekend in May during the annual Alabama Jubilee Hot-Air Balloon Classic. The must-see event of North Alabama is set for May 29-30, 2021, at Point Mallard Park and features hot air balloons, live music, a balloon glow, antique cars and tractors, motorcycles, arts and crafts, fireworks, other family fun with activities on the ground and in the air.

Point Mallard Campground s revenue has declined since Oct. 1 as some long-term campers leave and others remain miffed about policy changes that began taking effect last week, but officials said access to the facility will improve for tourists and local residents.
At least seven families have left the campground since Sept. 8 when the Decatur City Council voted 5-0 to adopt changes that included prohibiting any campers from staying longer than 14 consecutive days in Section A, the area along the roadway going into the campground. Council also raised rates and decided long-term campers â those staying from 15 to 179 days â will have to change sites after 179 days.
