Qatar moving towards end of second wave of pandemic: Official

The new variants like South African and UK which spread in the countries of the world are more severe,” said Dr. Al Khal while speaking in a Qatar TV programme yesterday. To a question about the privileges to vaccinated people in gradual lifting of COVID-19 restriction, he said: “Giving some privileges to vaccinated people with both doses in phase one is not discrimination, but to protect the people.”

COVID-19 cases drop below 300 for first time since January

 14 May 2021 - 9:54 Fazeena Saleem | The Peninsula In a positive development, new daily COVID-19 cases reported in the country have dropped below 300 for the first time since end of January. According to the daily report by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), 299 new confirmed cases were announced yesterday. Among them 176 were from community cases and 123 among travellers return from abroad. Also 752 people have recovered from the virus yesterday, bringing the total number of cases recovered in Qatar to 205,160. In addition, the Ministry announced three new deaths, aged 45, 54, and 57, all of which had a history of chronic disease. All were receiving the necessary medical care. Some 3,709 people were tested for the first time yesterday taking the total tests done so far to 1,961,687 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Indian variant not detected in Qatar: Dr Al Khal

 10 May 2021 - 9:07 Chair of National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19, Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal By Sidi Mohamed | The Peninsula Doha: Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal, Chair of the National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19 and Head of Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), has said the Indian variant of the coronavirus has not been detected in Qatar.  Speaking during a press conference on Qatar TV to address the COVID-19 situation in Qatar, Dr. Al Khal said over 1.7 million vaccine doses have been administered since the start of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Program. He urged citizens and residents to take the vaccines to facilitate the lifting of restrictions that will begin in phases from May 28. 

Qatar announces 4-phased plan to lift COVID-19 restrictions

Dubai: Qatar has announced a four-phased plan to gradually lift the COVID-19 restrictions starting from May 28, with each phase lasting three weeks, local media reported. “The date of implementation and the duration of each phase will depend on the epidemic indicators, based on residents’ compliance with the current measures, restrictions and guidance by the government,” said Dr Abdullatif Al Khal, Chairman of the National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19 and Head of Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation while addressing a press conference on Qatar TV. “While I understand that many people may be eager for the lifting of restrictions as soon as possible, I ask you to please be patient. Claiming victory against this virus is too early - with the new, highly transmissible variants in the community, there is still the potential for the virus to gain momentum and for the number to increase,” Dr Al Khal cautioned.
