In West Michigan, Ottawa County is projected to receive as much as $57 million from the plan. While the U.S. Treasury has outlined four spending categories, there is a bit of leniency to how the ARP money can be spent.
County officials are hoping to take a measured approach to using the relief funds. During a planning and policy committee meeting May 18, county commissioners voted to create a committee dedicated to determining how best to allocate the money.
The committee, which will likely become official after the county s next board of commissioner meeting May 25, will feature stakeholders from throughout Ottawa County. It will include representatives from the county s local municipalities (who are receiving ARP funding themselves), local business advocates and other community-based agencies.
