DHA launches new smoking cessation clinic DUBAI, January 11, 2021 Dubai Health Authority (DHA) added a new Smoking Cessation Clinic in Nad Al Hamr Health Centre, totalling the number of DHA Smoking Cessation Clinics to three. The DHA smoking cessation clinics, which cater to around 400 customers annually, recorded a 14 per cent quitting rate in 2020. Globally the quitting rate is in the range of 10 to 20 per cent. DHA’s Primary Health Care Sector established the first Smoking Cessation Clinic in 2010 after studies found that professional support and approved cessation medications can more than double a tobacco user s chance of successful quitting. Studies also found that without cessation support only four per cent of attempts to quit tobacco will succeed.

The Pfizer- BioNTech vaccination drive, which started from 2pm onwards on Wednesday, is being conducted 8 am and 8 pm daily. The first phase of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination campaign was launched in Dubai on Wednesday, a day after the announcement was made.

Shukralla, 32, from Dubai Police, also received their first dose. Dubai Health Authority joined forces with the emirate’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management and the Covid-19 Command and Control Centre to oversee the public health initiative. The first vaccines will be administered to Emiratis and residents aged 60 and over, people with chronic diseases or disabilities, and frontline workers in sectors such as health care. It is the second vaccine made available in the UAE after the Sinopharm jab was approved for nationwide use last month. The mRNA vaccine was developed by US pharmaceutical company Pfizer and the German biotechnology company BioNTech.
