every day about 1.5 million americans board airplanes. this morning they have a big question. is it safe to fly? no doubt there s good reason for that concern. this new plot centered around a nonmetallic explosive designed to slip through airport detectors similar to a bomb aboard a flight in 2009. a malfunction may be the only reason those passengers survived. the latest plot also targeted an international flight coming into the united states. that was foiled two weeks ago. the investigation is still unfolding. a short time ago we heard from white house chief adviser or counterterrorism. the big question how worried should we be that this bomb and others like it would not be detected by current safeguards. this i.ed was a threat from the standpoint of the design we ve been able to determine and so now we re trying to make sure that we take the measures that we need to to prevent any other type of ied from getting through security procedures. so will ramped up vigilance m
out of them. this is a pretty strong guy. during those hours until you landed in amarillo, text texas was there a sense that he could get free and try something. some people took off their belts and we tied it up with their belts and they took the seat belt extender and tied up his legs and literally four guys sat on him for the 20 minute flight to amarillo from the time they got him down on the ground and once we landed in amarillo, air marshalls and everybody else were right there waiting. thank you so much for telling us that first account. there s going to be a lot of questions now about stuff that s go on board as far as restraining people including pilots because that probably was never thought about before that this could actually happen this way. glad you re safe. all right. and the co-pilot, of course, a huge hero for locking the guy out. meanwhile, the other big story, we are now three hours away from the finale of the obamacare battle in washington, d.c. let s go out
is all about public perception. trace gallagher has more now and sounds like a big part of this whole investigation was over an offensive game? yeah. a jeopardy-type game board, shep, that was actually created by a senior air marshall in the orlando training office. apparently the training officers would use this game board to target the air marshals they did not like. the problem is this game board had a number of offensive slurs on it targeting african-americans, latinos, gays, lesbians and women. the air marshall who made up the board says it was only up for a few weeks. others say it was up for several months. the board kind of plays into the wider allegations of the report that the air marshalls over the past five or six years has been nothing more, shep, than a good old boys network. on the good news major changes for getting through security. this is going to be one i think a lot of people might like. if you qualify that is. i mean, what they are saying here is they tried
age i have say long friend. long time. i m thrilled to be here. nice to have you. will cain is here as well. we all know will cain. back again. got lots to talk about this morning. our starting point though is rick santorum waking up a big winner this morning as he swept all three states last night. strong victories in missouri and in minnesota. and a nail baiter win in the state of colorado. santorum says it is not just a victory for him but for the party overall. tonight was not just a victory for us. tonight was a victory for the voices of our party, conservatives and tea party people who are out there every single day in the vineyards building the conservative movement in this country, building the base of the republican party, and building a voice for freedom in this land. thank you. ron brownstein is the editorial director at the national journal and he will join our panel this morning. he has gotten so much better as a candidate, not ron brownstein, but rick
go down to the center. very funny. let s do a couple of headlines before donald trump joins us on the couch beginning with another terror scare in the air. this sounds strangely familiar. it happened yesterday on the exact same flight tarpthed by the crotch bomber, as brian likes to call him. unruly passenger causing a scare by screaming about terrorism and hijackers during his delta flight. three air marshalls responded fast, a passenger says. like a possessed person, you know, keeps going on and on and how he wanted them to shoot him. he wanted them to punch him. he wanted to fight. he was calling them all sorts of names. the incident comes on the same day as jury selection is scheduled to begin for the underwear bomber. he tried to bring down a similar plane as it landed on detroit on christmas day two years ago. the f.b.i. says these incidents are not related. meanwhile, a horrific story out of scranton, pennsylvania, two parents under arrest after
