Morton on brink of relegation after defeat at Montrose

MORTON S season of misery continued today as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Montrose to leave themselves on the brink of relegation. They got the first leg of their play-off semi-final off to the perfect start by taking an early lead. But they failed to build on it and were unable to cope with a strong second half comeback from the hosts at a windswept and rainy Links Park and now go into Tuesday s second leg at Cappielow with it all to do. The Greenock men began the game brightly and made the breakthrough with just five minutes played when Kalvin Orsi did well down the left and found Gary Oliver lurking inside the box.

Dundee v Morton - Cappielow men are in a fight for survival

THE trapdoor is threatening to open for Morton as they enter the final four games of the season in desperate need of points to stay in the Championship. A deeply damaging 4-1 defeat against Inverness in midweek has pushed them into the bottom two and they are now in grave danger of facing a relegation play-off at the least, unless they can turn things around and pick up a win or two over the next few weeks. Ayr and Arbroath are also in the mix, with Alloa adrift at the bottom, and it looks like it could well come down to Ton s two final fixtures, which are against The Wasps and the Red Lichties.

Dundee's Danny Mullen hopes supersub showing has done enough to earn a starting spot in key Inverness clash

© SNS Group Dundee striker Danny Mullen hopes his supersub appearance at Morton has done enough to earn him a start against Inverness on Tuesday night. The frontman came off the bench for the last half-hour at Cappielow, set up a goal for Jason Cummings, hit the post and then scored an 80 th-minute equaliser to earn a point for his side. However, he wasn’t able to jolt the Dark Blues out of their winless run as the 2-2 draw in Greenock made it four Championship matches without victory. Going into the re-arranged clash with Caley Thistle this week, Dundee won’t have won a league match in two months.
