Women have been facing problems with regard to a threat of sexual harassment and theft of jewellery while boarding an auto at night. As passengers often fail to details of the number plate of the auto, it was a challenge for the police officials to track down the perpetrators of the crime.
In a major initiative, 1,547 electronic challan devices are set to be deployed across the state within the next 10 days, said Karnataka DGP Alok Mohan.
Sub-inspector Mahesh, on duty in the vicinity, approached them to issue a warning and instructed them to leave. As he attempted to note down the vehicle’s registration number, the person driving suddenly started the vehicle and moved it forward. Ignoring the officer’s presence, they drove the vehicle towards him, causing him to end up on the car’s bonnet.
The scam, operating for over a year in KR Puram lured unsuspecting investors from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, amassing nearly Rs 50 crore. Victims like Sandadi Narasimha Reddy and Pandeti Venkataseshaiah suffered substantial losses, with Reddy reportedly assaulted and threatened by the accused. As investigations unfolded, the claim of illegal detention and torture during a police operation have also emerged.
“You have to mark your attendance from your designated spot. The app can detect your location. All the policemen are doing it at the start of their shifts at 7 am or 2 pm,” an official told BM.
