Onion harvest ending predicting bumper production in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 29, 2021 (BSS) – Onion harvest is nearing completion with excellent yield rate predicting a bumper production of the spicy crop making farmers happy in Rangpur agriculture region this season.
Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) at its regional office Agriculturist Khandker Abdul Wahed said farmers are reaping better profits from selling their newly harvested onions in all five districts of the region.
Market sources said farmers are selling their newly harvested local variety onion at rates between Taka 1,300 and Taka 1,400 per mound (every 40 kgs) to local middlemen and wholesalers.
Bumper litchi production forecast in Rangpur, Bangladesh
Great litchi tree blossoming, followed by a promising formation of tender fruit has made growers in all five districts of the Rangpur agricultural region hopeful of reaping huge profits this year. Officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said that more 95 percent of litchi trees in small, medium and big-sized litchi orchards and homesteads on over 1,850 hectares of land have bloomed massively this season in the region where the fruit formation continues smoothly now.
One litchi grower in the Badarganj
county of Rangpur said he has been cultivating litchi on commercial basis on his orchard for the past 12 years and never incurred any loss. “I have cultivated Madrazi and China-3 varieties of litchi in my orchard on four acres of land and tender fruits are growing superbly at this fruit setting period amid favorable weather,” he told dhakatribune.com.
