Aged care report splits over establishment of new commission

Aged care report splits over establishment of new commission Share The aged care royal commissioners have split over whether the federal department of health or a new specialised agency, the Australian Aged Care Commission, should lead major reforms identified in their final report released Monday. The chair, former Federal Court judge Tony Pagone, QC, declared there is “little point in repeating the same process again by asking the same department that has overseen the current failings to build and run the new aged care system”. Former CEO of Medicare Australia and Australian Public Service Commissioner Lynelle Briggs differed with Mr Pagone, arguing the establishment of an aged care commission would delay urgent reforms.
