We Believe: The Story of the Apostles' Creed

and the life everlasting. Amen. Against Heresy The precise origin of the Apostles’ Creed is shrouded in mystery. Though there is no historical or textual evidence that it is the direct product of the apostles, the Creed does have roots in the apostles’ teachings and the generation of disciples that followed the apostles in the patristic era. An abbreviated version of the Creed can be traced back to the second century. It seems to have been used first as a confession at one’s baptism, and it also appears in some martyrdom accounts. By the fifth century, the Apostles’ Creed developed into the form as it is now used today (

Does the Virgin Birth Really Matter?

Aristides (d. AD 134) attests that Christians in his day affirmed that Jesus “from a Hebrew virgin assumed and clothed himself with flesh” ( Apology §2), and Irenaeus (d. 130) states, “The Church . . . has received from the apostles and their disciples this faith . . . [including] the birth from a virgin” ( Against Heresies 1.10). It is vital, then, that we have an opportunity each year to reflect on this staggering, foundational fact of Christianity: Jesus — unlike any other human who ever existed — was born without a human father. ‘Born of the Virgin Mary’ Where do we see this in Scripture? Let’s begin with the first part of the creedal phrase, “

The 69th & 70th Weeks of Daniel 9 - Associates for Biblical Research

Of particular interest at this special time of year is my article on “Pinpointing the Date of Christ’s Birth.” With over 27,000 hits on the ABR website, it is humbling to see how popular it has been, indicating it has been well received and shared with others. If you have never read it, may I encourage you to do so? Its conclusions were arrived at independently of the main research on Daniel, but are consistent with it. Daniel’s Seventy Weeks were Seventy Sabbatical Year Cycles The present study moves beyond Daniel 9:25 to consider verses 26 and 27, which deal with things that take place during and after Daniel’s 69th week. We begin by first affirming a key finding of this study, discussed in Part 1 of “The Going Forth of Artaxerxes’ Decree.” It presented the case that the “weeks” of Daniel 9:24–27 should be understood as

PART 6 FAVOR WITH GOD AND MAN 7                                                                    WHAT DID THE CHURCH FATHERS BELIEVE CONCERNING THE ELEMENTS OF COMMUNION?   In this chapter, we will look at the writings by the Church Fathers that relate to the elements of communion. This topic will be consolidated under the word transubstantiation, the doctrine of which was formulated at the Council of Trent (a council of the Roman Catholic Church that defined church teachings between 1545-1563AD) concerning the elements of communion. While we have already given a definition of this view, let’s state it again. This theological perspective stated that the substance of the bread and the wine changes into the substance of the body and blood of Christ. It is no longer bread and wine, but Christ really present under the appearance of bread and wine.
