(PNA file photo) MANILA-As the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) intensifies its operations against the communist terrorist groups to secure the May elections, AFP Chief, Gen. Andres Centino, has urged all remaining rebels to surrender and avail of the government's Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) so that they can live peaceful lives with their families and loved ones. The AFP chief made this appeal following the death of two New People's Army (NPA) terrorists during an encounter with the 36th Infantry Battalion in Lanuza, Surigao Del Sur last April 29. "We are saddened by (the lives) wasted because of the senseless armed revolution of the communist NPA terrorists," he said in a statement late Tuesday. "The AFP confirms that the AFP Chief of Staff, General Andres Centino has tested positive for Covid-19, yesterday (Thursday). General Centino is now in an approved isolation facility within Camp Aguinaldo where he will continue to perform his job, albeit, in quarantine," military spokesperson, Col. Ramon Zagala said in a message to reporters Friday. Despite this, Centino will remain in full command of the AFP and will be supervising all units in carrying out their assigned tasks through all allowed and available means. He also instructed all military personnel to adhere to Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children, and the Republic Act No. 11313 or "Safe Space Act." Antonio Parlade Jr., said military chief Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana on Wednesday. Sobejana made the remark in response to questions about the status of the investigation on Parlade during the Commission on Appointments panel hearing to confirm his nomination to the rank of general. But Sobejana confirmed that the investigation on Parlade is still ongoing. Nevertheless, he clarified that although Parlade is also serving as spokesperson for the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), the AFP is an integral part of the said task force.
