Yesterday 11 May, Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets attended the General Affairs Council of the European Union in Brussels. The ministers discussed preparations for the 24-25 May European Council that will focus on COVID-19, climate policy and relations with Russia. At the General Affairs Council, the ministers discussed in detail the response to the spread of COVID-19, the organisation of the Conference on the Future of Europe and the European Union’s enlargement policy.

TALLINN - Estonian Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets will be in Brussels on Monday and Tuesday to take part in the meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council and the General Affairs Council of the European Union.
Monday s meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council will focus on advancing EU-US relations and developments in the Western Balkans. The foreign ministers will discuss, among other things, matters related to the Afghan peace process, the negotiations on the Iran nuclear deal, and Russia and Belarus as topical issues, spokespeople for the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Portugal Hopes to Move Forward with North Macedonia by End of June
During Tuesday’s session of the General Affairs Council of the European Union, North Macedonia and Albania were discussed in the context of the possibility of starting negotiations soon. Malta reiterates its continued support for EU-wide coordination on COVID19 matters

During a video conference meeting of the General Affairs Council of the European Union, Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi reiterated Malta’s support for continued EU-wide COVID-19 coordination.
The Portuguese Presidency of Council, which commenced on January 1st, convened the meeting to prepare for the EU leaders’ informal video conference meeting scheduled for this week, in which Prime Minister Robert Abela is expected to participate.
In his intervention, Dr Zrinzo Azzopardi welcomed the work by the European Commission on behalf of all member states in procuring the vaccines.
