Matiza becomes the fourth serving government minister to die of the dreaded disease and third minister to succumb in just a single week.
Agriculture minister Perrance Shiri died of the vicious respiratory disease late last year while Manicaland provincial affairs minister Ellen Gwaradzimba and Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo both died early this week.
Zimbabwe government officials are under siege from the disease with both Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi reportedly under the claws of the pandemic.

Outside the incumbents, former minister Aeneas Chigwedere and ex-Zanu PF MP Christopher Chigumba both died this Friday from the disease that has killed nearly 1,000 and infected over 30 000.
Former Education Minister Aeneas Chigwedere has succumbed to COVID-19, according to the state-controlled Herald newspaper.
Chigwedere’s death was announced by Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister David Musabayana, who could not give any further details.
The Ministry of Health reports that 38 people succumbed to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours in Zimbabwe and 639 tested positive for coronavirus. At least 30,047 people have tested positive for COVID-19 since March last year and 19,569 have recovered. An estimated 639 Zimbabweans succumbed to COVID-19 in the last nine months.
The country’s foreign affairs minister Sibusiso Moyo, who announced the military intervention that forced the late former president Robert Mugabe to leave office, died of COVID-19 two days ago.

As we pass from the year 2020, let us establish some home-grown truths about ourselves as Zimbabweans.
While I will challenge our readers to this debate, on penalty of paying a fine of a goat if the reader loses his bet, I have set about proper safeguards against losing my shirt as I previously did in the Donald Trump election of November 3, 2020.
The challenge is this. It is obvious to me, and I hope to all reasonable men (and women) that when God made the world, he made Zimbabwe last, and He saw that it was good. I have yet to meet a single Diasporan who does not wish to return to our beloved Zimbabwe. But there is more to it.
