Torrential downpour at Erinmope Ekiti in the Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State left no fewer than 1,000 residents homeless as over 200 houses were destroyed on Friday.
The rainstorm also affected two public primary schools and two churches in the community.
Also, about 20 hectares of cocoa and kolanut plantations were gutted by a midnight fire in Isan-Ekiti, the hometown of Governor Kayode Fayemi, in the Oye Local Government Area of the state.
The Chairman, Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency, Captain Sunday Adebomi (retd.), who spoke on Saturday during an on-the-spot assessment of the damage in the two communities, expressed delight that no life was lost during the incidents.

The first set of rains in the new season has come with heavy rainstorms, destroying over 200 houses in Ekiti in the last one week.
It is estimated that over 1,000 persons have been rendered homeless following the devastation, according to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
Residents of Erimope Ekiti of Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State are mostly affected.
Friday’s downpour began at about 6 p.m., and was accompanied by strong winds which wreaked havoc on residential buildings in the town.
