The management of Premium Times newspaper has said that it would continue operations despite the fire outbreak at the head office.

PREMIUM TIMES creates developmental journalism focused desk

PREMIUM TIMES, has created a development-focused desk. The newspaper’s Managing Editor, Idris Akinbajo, on Monday announced the creation of “Development Desk.” The desk, according to Mr Akinbajo will focus on issues of human development including health and education. He also announced the appointment of Mojeed Alabi, former deputy head of investigations as the new head of the desk. Mr Alabi holds a BA Certificate in English from Obafemi Awolowo University and Masters in Diplomacy and Strategic Studies (MDSS), from UNILAG. He joined the defunct National Mirror Newspapers in 2010 and served as both education correspondent and campus page editor. He later moved to New Telegraph Newspaper in 2014 as correspondent before joining PREMIUM TIMES as deputy head of investigations.

Court upholds INEC s deregistration of AUN – Punch Newspapers

Punch Newspapers Sections Ade Adesomoju, Abuja The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, upheld the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision deregistering the Alliance for United Nigeria, as a political party. Justice Ahmed Mohammed in a judgment held that INEC’s decision was “unassailable” as it was in line with the provision of section 225(a) of the Nigerian Constitution. The judge held that the AUN failed to meet the statutory threshold of the registration requirement for political parties. He held that having participated in the 2019 general elections and failed to win any seat in either the federal, state or local government levels, INEC was right to deregister the party as stipulated in the constitutional provision.

Court admits more exhibits against Obaseki over certificate forgery

Punch Newspapers Sections Ade Adesomoju, Abuja The All Progressives Congress on Wednesday tendered two more documents in support of its allegation of certificate forgery levelled against the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, at the Federal High Court in Abuja. One of the documents was the original copy of a first-degree certificate awarded to Emmanuel Balogun and by the University of Ibadan on July 6, 1979. Obaseki had said he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics from the same university in the same year. The other document admitted as exhibit by the court was a report of a forensic document examiner, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr Raphael Onwuzuligbo.

Court dismisses suit seeking Ize-Iyamu’s disqualification as APC candidate Ade Adesomoju, Abuja The Federal High Court on Tuesday dismissed the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party seeking the disqualification of Mr Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the September 19, 2020 election in Edo State. Justice Ahmed Mohammed dismissed the suit on the grounds that it “has become an academic exercise”. The judge noted that since the APC lost the election, there would be “no benefit” for the PDP to gain in the success of the suit. Justice Mohammed added that the APC and Ize-Iyamu were not challenging  the outcome of the election at the Election Petition Tribunal which is the forum with the exclusive jurisdiction to determine who is validly elected in the election.
