Nearly 200 of the museum's 300-plus workers walked off the job and are picketing outside the famous Center City museum. A union leader vowed that they would not.
Unionized workers at the Philadelphia Museum of Art again went on strike Monday, Sept. 26, in an effort to secure better wages, health care benefits and job security in their first contract with the cultural institution. AFSCME Local 397 previously held a one-day 'warning' strike on Sept. 16 over unfair labor practices and alleged union-busting tactics. They filed eight unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board in August, which union members said have not been remedied.
The union that represents workers in several museum departments says the warning strike stems from contract negotiations begun two years ago, when they unionized.
