BRATTLEBORO â A refugee resettlement program proposing the opening of a Brattleboro office received a warm welcome from community members. âWelcome to the family here in Brattleboro, open hearts and open arms,â Gary Stroud, a member of Representative Town Meeting and various town committees, said Tuesday following a presentation to the Select Board. Ethiopian Community Development Council (ECDC) applied to the United States Department of State to establish an office in Brattleboro. The hope is to open in October. Select Board Vice Chairman Ian Goodnow said he fully supports the project, calling it a way to âmake Vermont the place we want to beâ in terms of diversity and inclusion.

Layoffs coming at People s United Bank processing center in Brattleboro

BRATTLEBORO â More than 50 employees at the Peopleâs United Bank processing center on Putney Road will be losing their jobs. âTheyâre offering really good severance packages to try and keep those folks on board through the duration until the termination,â said Adam Grinold, executive director of Brattleboro Development Credit Corp. âMost of it is going to occur in 2022.â A WARN Act notice issued Thursday alerted the state and the town of the looming layoffs. Grinold said companies are required by federal law to make such notices when planning sizable reductions of workforce.
