PLANS for a £23m theatre project have been revealed. On January 7, South Somerset District Council (SSDC) agreed in principle to proceed with plans to transform The Octagon Theatre. And now they have revealed the plans for the new creative hub .

Increased seating capacity in the auditorium for up to 900 people, with a flexible orchestra pit and a fly tower and full flying facilities, as well as improved acoustics and sound lobbies
An extension at the front of the building, with two additional theatres (one to seat 124 people, one to seat 64 people)

A Somerset council has agreed in principle to push ahead with a £23M upgrade of one of the county’s most popular arts venues. South Somerset District Council announced in late-December its intention to upgrade the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil, boosting its capacity and technical equipment so that it can support larger shows. The council’s district executive committee voted unanimously on Thursday morning (January 7) to push forward with the project, despite concerns over the projected cost and how it would be funded.
