Sanitation worsens at CMB market; Traders offload at unauthorised places

One of the heaps of garbage at the CMB market where many families buy their foodstuff The already bad sanitation situation at the CMB enclave in the Central Business District of Accra where many families buy their food stuff has worsened. This follows the offloading of tomatoes by some traders at unauthorised places within the area during the day and at night. According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly, Mr Nii Ofori Quaye, the traders had resorted to that practice to evade taxes and the assembly had not been able to keep up with the pace of cleaning after them.

Filth returns to Accra Markets

A drain choked with plastic waste near Odawna market in Accra In spite of the disinfection and mass cleanups in the country’s markets in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, filth is returning to the markets. A visit to a number of the markets in the Accra metropolis revealed that sections of the markets had piles of refuse accompanied by pungent smell and multitudes of flies. The markets included Makola, Mallam Atta, Adabraka and CMB. At the Kaneshie and Dansoman markets, the environment was fairly clean, with pockets of sanitary challenges. Filth at markets Despite the challenges in the markets, intense trading activities were taking place.
