The Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji (ACCF) has paid out a total of FJ$17.3million in compensation to victims of accidents since January 2018.
The ACCF board noted this at the first board meeting for the year held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.
As part of the management’s update, the Board was advised that the majority of applicants for compensation for injuries arising from motor vehicle and employment accidents would not have received compensation under the previous legal framework.
ACCF chief executive officer Parvez Akbar said close to 80 per cent of families who lost loved ones from motor vehicle accidents would also have missed out on receiving compensation under the old law.
