Discount flights to bring tourists to Hobart
Joint media release with Deputy Prime Minister the Hon Michael McCormack MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment the Hon Dan Tehan MP and Senator the Hon Eric Abetz
Thousands of extra visitors will fly into Hobart giving the local economy a major boost, after the city was added to the list of tourist destinations in the Coalition Government’s new Tourism Aviation Network support package.
The Government this week announced it was offering 800,000 half-price tickets to Australians who fly to tourist destinations impacted by the closure of international borders.
Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said this was Australia’s latest ticket to recovery as the Federal Government backs our aviation and tourism industries to lay the foundations for our economic recovery.

The Tasmanian Government welcomes today’s announcement from the Australian Government of further support for our tourism industry.
The package will include half-price airfares for visitors to Launceston, Devonport and Burnie, bringing visitors to Tasmania and providing a boost for local tourism operators that have done it tough through COVID-19.
It will bring more travellers keen to spend in our hotels and cafes, meaning more jobs and investment for the tourism and aviation sectors, and more money into regional businesses and our economy.
While Hobart remains a major drawcard for travellers, for many years we have been working to encourage more travellers to explore all areas of our State, spreading the economic benefit more widely, so this package will build on this important work.

The Tasmanian Government’s focus continues to be on protecting the health and safety of Tasmanians and with our vaccination program in full swing, Tasmania is in a good place.
Today marks the conclusion of the second week of our state-based vaccination program with 2327 Tasmanians vaccinated over the first two weeks, including frontline health workers, paramedics, quarantine and border staff including police officers.
The next delivery of the Pfizer vaccine – approximately 1170 doses – will arrive on Sunday and we will continue the vaccination program of priority groups at the RHH from Tuesday.
Pleasingly, the vaccination program continues to run on schedule and will start at the Launceston General Hospital and the North West Regional Hospital in Burnie on 15 March, as planned.

Labor has a plan to invest in Port of Burnie and drive growth
Infrastructure Australia’s (IA) 2021 Priority List reinforces Labor’s calls for the State Government to get on with delivering crucial projects that have been neglected for years.
Shadow Infrastructure Minister Shane Broad said the Burnie Port upgrade is one of two projects added to the list this year, yet the State Government continues to ignore it.
“The Port of Burnie is one of the state’s key assets and, along with replacing the Port of Hobart’s wharf infrastructure, is one of only two priority projects recognised by IA on its 2021 list,” Dr Broad said.
