An Academy Independent School District Kindergarten student is now too traumatized to ride the bus after she was left behind and stuck in the bus yard, her mom says.
The Academy Independent School District announced that it will offer free meals to all students during the upcoming school year.
âTypically a studentâs household must meet income eligibility requirements to qualify for free or reduced-price meals,â the district said in a news release. âHowever, the United States Department of Agriculture issued guidance that allows schools to offer meals to all students at no cost for the 2021-22 school year.â
Although no application or eligibility requirement is necessary for this school year, Academy ISD expects both to resume for the 2022-23 school year.
The Academy Independent School District aims to open a new high school campus in August 2023 â a facility that Superintendent Billy Harlan said would alleviate any growth-related capacity concerns.
Funding will be drawn from the $79 million bond issue that Academy ISD voters overwhelmingly approved in the May 1 election.
âWe are so thankful to the Academy ISD school community for the support for the construction project ⦠68 percent approval is phenomenal,â Harlan wrote in his monthly newsletter. âThe processes are already underway as surveyors, geotech engineers and architects begin to work on concepts for us to consider.â
The new facility, which is currently being designed by Claycomb Associates, will be built on the 80-acre property â just north of its existing high school site â that Academy ISD purchased last year.
