John Grindrod: A look under the production hood of the LCC play
By John Grindrod - Guest Columnist
Despite all the negatives of this past year caused by something none of us would have ever thought possible, it seems that there occasionally can be found some silver linings. Such was the case for the Lima Central Catholic seniors who bonded and delivered a terrific play, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” on last month’s second weekend.
As for the T-Bird silver lining, for the first time in the history of Veterans Memorial Civic Center, a high school was able to use Lima’s grandest stage for a class play. As to how a venue that has seen scores of professional Broadway-caliber performers present their talents many times over the 30-plus years the facility has been open, the play’s producer, Jim O’Neill, points to two factors.
Jim Krumel: Right way, wrong way, government way

It simply doesn’t make sense.
How can someone take over a job they’ve never done, and get paid more than the person who previously held the position for 32 years?
That’s what will happen when Lima elects a new mayor in November. The newly elected candidate not only will receive outgoing Mayor David Berger’s $125,811 yearly salary, but on top of that, she or he will get a cost-of-living increase.
The Lima News brought up the possibility of this happening five years ago, but those on City Council at that time took things in a different direction. Instead of passing an ordinance that would set a lower starting wage for a new mayor, council instead decided to cut Berger’s pay from $132,000 to $123,500.

LIMA Live entertainment will return to Veterans Memorial Civic Center this fall, more than a year after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled live shows.
The Civic Center Foundation announced Thursday morning that three live performances are scheduled for later this year, including Black Violin on Oct. 21, The Oak Ridge Boys on Oct. 24 and A Christmas Carol on Dec. 12.
“There’s a little bit of rejuvenation here now,” said Abe Ambroza, CEO of the Civic Center. “Now we’re able to book these events and make some announcements. It’s the shot in the arm I need and my staff needed.”
