Fly-tipping near Moor Crichel in East Dorset. Picture: East Dorset Police This awful amount of waste was thought to have been dumped near Moor Crichel in East Dorset on the night of Tuesday March 2. Last month council leaders in Dorset have called for jail time for the worst offenders of fly-tipping - as it emerged it cost taxpayers more than £60,000 to clean up in less than a year. The call comes as it is revealed there were 1,501 incidents of fly-tipping reported to Dorset Council between April 2020 and January 2021 - costing £60,840 to clear up.

Cleverlawns in Abbotsbury, which leads down to the subtropical gardens and Chesil Beach, will be shut between 9am and 4pm from Monday, February 22 to Friday, February 26 to allow Dorset Council’s road maintenance workers to resurface the route. The road closure covers the entire road up until it merges onto Buller’s Way, near to the temporarily closed Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens. Dorset Council say there will be no access for pedestrians, and cars will not be able to park along the road. The road will be open overnight.

And now the beauty spot where a magnificent vista can be enjoyed of the Jurassic Coast and surrounding countryside has been spoilt by flytipping – an act which has been condemned as despicable . A large amount of building waste has been dumped in a lay-by off the B3157 coast road near the top of Abbotsbury Hill overlooking the Fleet and Chesil Beach. A similar amount of material has also been left in a lane towards the bottom of the hill. It was dumped sometime over the festive and new year period and was still there at the weekend when many people ventured out for walks or drives in the country.
