how about smaller things you buy every day? gallon of gas now cost $3.17. a year ago, $2.08. it s a 52% increase. that s inflation. a dozen eggs now cost $1.84, up 36% from a year ago. pound of bacon, $7.22. a pound of bacon up about 30% in a year. so all in, consumer prices rose in august by 5.4% from a year ago. there go any wage increases right out the door. and right now, inflation is at a 30-year high. a 30-year high and as i said, if there is anything that can eat away any wage gains and eat away an economy, it is inflation. but the president and his cabinet have been saying don t worry about it. it s just transitory or temporary. it s just going to last for a little bit here but they have been saying it for months. my judgment right now is that the recent inflation that we re seeing will be temporary. it s not something that s endemic.
