no one is offended by obamacare more than myself. i ve seen it up close, i ve seen it firsthand, i ll do anything to get rid of it. however, i don t want to have to vote for a budget that never balances and a budget that adds $9.7 trillion in debt in order to get to it. what i told my colleagues is, why don t we introduce a good budget? when the balances and then repeal obamacare? the rules and congress are you can t repeal it until you pass a budget. but what is and be a bad budget? we are not getting any democrats to vote for the budget. this is in a compromise with democrats. were going to vote for a budget. this is a republican product, why should it not be a vision of conservative budget, a fiscal conservatism russian mark why is it a budget that adds so much debt? tucker: that s a good question. you also said it could eventually lead for a tax to insurance companies. you wrote that. i understand that reasoning too.
one of the things, of course, just all over washington that we are waiting for is to find out what happens to the supercommittee if they can reach a deal before thanksgiving. you will be meeting with a tea party group that says they can save $9.7 trillion and do it without raising taxes. what are your hopes that something like that can be accomplished? i think we have to get to that point if we want to balance our budget. freedom works and other groups have given us proposals and advice on how to do that. shannon: do you have hope that the committee will get something done by the wednesday deadline? i have hopes that we will do it and hopes that we will find anything to allow us to make the cuts that we need to make. i have been a pessimist about the supercommittee. it is not a recipe for success when you try to consolidate into a 12 person committee and have them meet behind closed doors. if they can come up with cuts i m happy to examine them. shannon: there has been talk abo
up a balanced budget amendment which conservatives believe would help the government live within its means. i m for a balanced budget amendment because i think it would be tremendous improvement to the current situation where in the last 50 years they only balanced the budget six times and we had $15 trillion national debt. today, some lawmakers affiliated with the tea party unveiled their plan to seek to cut $9.7 trillion over ten years through deep cuts. slinking the federal government from 24% of gdp to 16%. it would also salvage our ability to fund everything from defense to entitlements if we reform it. we have to start the process of reforming it now and take bold aggressive steps to do that. while all here on capitol hill, wait to see if the super committee reach a deal. the members do not seem overly optimistic. they are already speaking openly about plans for weekend sessions of the panel. bret? here we go again. mike, thank you. the man suspected of firing at the wh
america what their priorities were. we held a series of field hearings across the country where the grass roots commissioners allowed the american people to say what their priorities were. jon: all right what you came up with, the results and i m going to kind of gloss over them, but part of what those suggestions, some of the fruit they brought involves balancing the budget in four years saving $9.7 trillion over ten years, shrinks the percentage of our gdp that we spend on government operations from 24% to 16%, and makes the bush tax cuts and alternative minimum tax relief permanent. sounds too good to be true, matt. well there is a lot of tough choices. here in washington d.c. there are special interests that will defend every dime in the budget. but if the principle is you have to focus on our children and our grandchildren and the future of our country, we have to balance the budget. we have to do something about the national debt. there were no sacred cows.
it would balance our nation s budget in four years. chief correspondent mike emanuel on capitol hill. some details, mike, is where the devil lives. what is the tea party plan? reporter: good morning. let s take a few key bullet points from that plan t would cut, cap and balance federal spending t would reduce spending by $9.7 trillion over the next 10 years as opposed to the president s plan to increase spending $2.3 doctor. it would ink have the federal government from the 24% of gdp to 16%. they would like to repeal the president s health care law. they would close agencies. super-committee is struggling to find common ground to come up with 1.2 trillion in cuts this certainly politically would be a heavy lift. tea party folks will roll out their plan later today, jon. jon: they re getting pressure from all sides, the left and the right as they
