has president obama s approval rating at or about 50%, despite controversies that some have said are the toughest of his presidency. joining me is ed rendell and chip saltzman. governor, do these approval numbers make sense to you? sure. it s basically democrats rallying around the president and again it s a symptom of the republicans overplaying their hand, trying to turn it into a partisan issue, trying to place blame directly on the president when there s no evidence to support that. it s a little bit of both. it s the same percentage that voted for him in november. okay. chip, you look at these numbers and it s really not without precedent. president clinton s approval ratings, they skyrocketed after 63.8%. on the flip side, you have president bush who hit an approval rating just after hurricane katrina. is this a barometer of how much

work force and working part-time. 14.6% in october, down slightly from 14.7 in september. 14.6. now, the participation rate, let s not get too technical. but that s the number of people who came into the work force or dropped out of it. go. that rose to 63.8% because about 600,000 people came into the work force and started looking for jobs. but only about 400,000 of those said they found jobs. that s why the unemployment rate went up slightly to 7.9%. all right. peter barns, thank you very much. charles payne joins me now. you ve heard the numbers. your initial take? n my initial take is i m watching the market right now. it s not taking off. it s a curious thing. i want to dig further into this. on the surface, the numbers are better than expected without a doubt. we came into the week looking for 125,000. it s not where we need to be. we need to be around 250,000 to really start making a true dent in our drastic unemployment

expected on just about every count. if you were looking at the number of jobs created it was 171,000. that was better than the 125,000 people had been expecting that economists had been expecting. you also could take a look at the revisions over the last couple months. apparently for august and september the labor department now saying there were an additional 84,000 jobs that were created in those jobs than they had already reported. that is good news on the revisions. the unemployment rate actually ticked a little higher to 7.9% from 7.8%. that is just because there were a lot more people looking for work. it was 578,000 people that came back into the jobs market. that is a really positive sign actually because it means people are feeling a little better about their prospects and thinking maybe they can find a job. we have been waiting for a turn like that to indicate maybe things are starting to turn a corner. up to 7.9% but good news not bad news because it means more people are co

g.m. sales, down 41%, the first year. 8,000 new people walked into unemployment office this week, this past week. 8,000 more up to 365,000 new from the week prior. 365 total. they said, i need help. that s not working out so well. gasoline up 24 cents a gallon in july, the biggest one-month jump in july ever and then this one. the labor force. this is the one no one wants to talk about in the administration. 63.8% of the workforce explain. 63% of americans who are available to work are working. this is usually, 68, 69, 70%. unemployment over 11%. 11 1/2%. so the numbers are not proving out to what mo is trying to bring. the bottom line is that

the economy in a upward trajectory from then. steve: is that true? because i ve heard and i ve seen data, ed, that during this administration so far, given that so many jobs were lost, this administration has not created any net jobs, net new jobs since the president took office. no, bridget, i absolutely love you. but i don t know what chart you re look at because every single thing that obama has done, his policies, have created less jobs, weaker economy. think about this, 63.8% of the labor force is working. meaning that there are 37 plus% of the work force that s not. the people watching the show now who have jobs, when that number comes down and it s weak, that means their job is in jeopardy cause a weak economy, a weak jobs number means a weak economy, which means everybody is at risk. steve: you have job security because you have an ipad app. thank you for that plug. brother station.
