A 16 year-old south Monterey county high school student will not only be graduating early this year from high school, she ll also be graduating from Hartnell College with 4 associate s degrees..and she s a first-generation college student in her family. With her weighted GPA of 4.6, Leily Garcia plans to attend UCLA in the fall, where she ll study biology (before attending medical school).
She will be starting at UCLA partway through her sophomore year.
In part she has been able to get through all this schooling so quickly because she took part in Soledad High School s concurrent dual enrollment programs

The ground has been broken on a mid-county housing and wellness site. The 3.7-acre project, in the Live Oak area of Santa Cruz, will include affordable housing units, a medical clinic, and a dental clinic. The clinics are now expected to open in 2022, while the construction of the housing units is schedule to begin in the spring of 2022.

The Dungeness Crab season will end early this year due to concerns about the safety of the critically endangered leatherback sea turtles and humpback whales. That s because of the risk of those turtles and whales getting entangled in the crabbing lines as they come in closer to shore to catch and eat anchovies, because the krill (which are their first choice in food) are dying off (reportedly due to the warmer ocean water depleting the nutrients there). Crab season is now scheduled to end June 1st.
