STOCKBRIDGE â A civil lawsuit has been filed against BBQ Masters restaurant owner Arick Whitson by Atlantic Speciality Insurance Company in an attempt recoup a $1 million overpayment by the company.
Whitson recently settled a lawsuit with the city of Stockbridge for $1.7 million. The agreement stated the insurance company, ASIC, would wire $1 million to Whitsonâs bank account, $191,193 to Whitson and the restaurant, and the remaining $533,807 to his attorney, Greg Hecht of Hecht Walker P.C.
The lawsuit claims the insurance company inadvertently double paid Whitson, wiring his bank a total of $2 million in two separate transfers; one on April 6, followed by a second on April 8. The April 8 payment was made by Atlantic believing the April 6 transfer had been canceled.
