Main Council considers closing streets this summer - Santa Monica Daily Press

Main Council considers closing streets this summer Apr. 30, 2021 at 6:00 am Main Street may be closed to automobile and bus traffic this summer if Council were to approve a proposed pilot program that could boost economic recovery efforts. Council directed staff to return with a pilot program during its meeting Tuesday that would close the most restaurant-dense areas of Main Street to everything except foot traffic. The recent changes to Main Street have been a hot topic since the ideas were first conceived at the start of the pandemic. The program to expand outdoor dining has been popular amongst the business community. Local groups like the Ocean Park Association (OPA) have hosted surveys showing positive public opinion, but OPA members are far from the only ones who expressed interest in making al-fresco a permanent feature of Santa Monica.

Plan would transform car-centric El Cajon Blvd into pedestrian-friendly area

SAN DIEGO    A new plan aims to slowly transform car-centric El Cajon Boulevard into a series of pedestrian-friendly neighborhood hubs with mid-rise housing, restaurants, urban plazas, parks, art displays and event spaces. Called BLVD 2020, the plan says there is potential to create a regional destination and a thriving cultural hub on the four-mile roadway, which passes through University Heights, North Park, Normal Heights, Kensington, Talmadge and City Heights. More than a fifth of San Diego residents live within 5 miles of El Cajon Boulevard, including many in the city’s most ethnically distinct neighborhoods such as Little Saigon and many areas of City Heights.

It is very encouraging : Port Stanley lift bridge work on track to be completed before summer

LONDON, ONT. The King George Lift Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Port Stanley, Ont. remains on track thanks to contractors pushing through the recent cold weather. We remain on schedule with an anticipated substantial completion date of May 31, 2021 so we are excited about that, says Brian Lima, director engineering services for Elgin County and project manager. Driving through the Lake Erie village in the past few weeks, you would have noticed the west side of the bridge is now down. After being raised for large watercraft, the bridge was lowered on Feb. 2 to begin rehabilitation. Despite it being lowered, vehicles and pedestrians will still not be able to cross.
