In the British West Indies much of the early capital to finance White slavery came from Sephardic Jews from Holland. They provided credit, machinery and shipping facilities. In the 1630s Dutch Jews had been deeply involved in the enslavement of the Irish, financing their transport to slave plantations in the tropics. By the 1660s, this combination of Jewish finance and White slave labor made the British island colony of Barbados the richest in the empire. The island’s value, in terms of trade and capital exceeded that of all other British colonies combined. (John Oldmixon, The British Empire in America, vol. 2, p. 186.)
By Advertiser Reporter AN ALLEGED rogue tradesman will appear before Swindon Crown Court next month. Robert Hughes, 30, is said to have targeted two pensioners in Swindon in 2019 – allegedly telling one man he had installed a soakaway when he had not. Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court, Hughes, of Cranleigh, Surrey, entered no pleas to three counts of fraud. He is accused of failing to disclose to two customers information about their rights to cancel proposed works and making a false representation to one man that he’d installed a soakaway. The offences were allegedly committed in October 2019. The case has been brought by Swindon Borough Council’s trading standards department.

Don’t want to get dirty? Now you can stick to the road with the Cannonball Challenge
You don t need a big adventure bike to take part
The rally is the brainchild of Robert Hughes 1 of 3
A new road-based navigation event is coming this summer that will see road riders get a taste of the Dakar spirit without having to venture off the black stuff. The Cannonball Challenge is being organised by Rallymoto, who have had huge success organising similar events for adventure bike riders over the last few years. We see lots of guys who want to have a go at rally-style navigation but without the huge investment, says Robert Hughes, founder of Rallymoto. We also get a lot of guys who love the navigation aspect but don’t want to take their newer machines off-road, so we’ve created the road orientated Cannonball Challenge.
