Rakuten Trade partners with Boost to focus more on cashless transaction

KUALA LUMPUR (March 2): Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd is partnering with homegrown e-wallet Boost to focus more on cashless transactions, which have risen in popularity since the Movement Control Order (MCO) last year. In a joint statement today, the firms said the collaboration will see Rakuten Trade shifting towards providing its digital retail investors with more immediate gratification through reward points being converted into affiliate rewards that can be turned into Boost e-wallet coins. Rakuten Trade, which launched its rewards ecosystem in August 2017, issues an average of 4.3 million Rakuten Trade (RT) points monthly. As at Dec 31, 2020, revenue generated from its rewards ecosystem stood at RM16.3 million and has been on an upward trend each year.

KLCI ends 0 17% higher amid rotational play, in line with Wall Street gains

KUALA LUMPUR (March 2): The FBM KLCI closed higher by 0.17% or 2.73 points as investors engaged in stock-picking amid sector rotational play, while the positive sentiment generated from Wall Street’s overnight surge has also spilt over to the local market. At 5pm, the benchmark index closed at 1,569.87 points. Today, the index had only been trading in the positive territory throughout the trading session, ranging between 1,568.67 and 1,583.43. Among the 30 FBM KLCI constituents, 18 stocks were higher, nine were lower while three traded flat. Gains were led by IHH Healthcare Bhd, which jumped 21 sen or 3.97% to RM5.50, followed by Dialog Group Bhd and MISC Bhd.

Bursa Malaysia likely to re-test 1,600-level from Monday (March 1)

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 (Bernama): Bursa Malaysia is anticipated to re-test the 1,600-level this week, with recovery-theme and vaccine-related stocks likely to be in focus following the start of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme last Wednesday. Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd head of equity sales Vincent Lau said a series of better-than-expected corporate earnings results released recently would also lend some support to the local bourse in the coming week. We expect the FBM KLCI to range between 1,560 and 1,590 the coming week. But with so many corporate results that had beaten market anticipations, the key index is also likely to re-test the 1,600-level next week,” he told Bernama.

The index opened 3.97 points higher at 1,612.04 compared with Monday’s close of 1,608.07.

Corporate earnings to show improvement in the Oct-Dec quarter

Sectors that the pandemic clobbered hardest such as tourism-related businesses like hotels, airlines and retailers were likely to have continued spilling red ink in 4Q20. Besides the glove makers, export-oriented companies, such as electrical and electronics manufacturers, and furniture makers as well as the plantation sector are likely to be the bright spots. MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Bhd research head Imran Yassin Yusof is expecting the growth to be circa 20% year-on-year (y-o-y), driven by the stellar performance of glove makers, citing that the sector saw earnings skyrocket following the increase in demand due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
