Anna Elizabeth Jerome Spencer (1872-1955) was a woman ahead of her time.
She spent most of her life in Hawke s Bay and on Sunday a bronze statue will be unveiled in her honour on the corner of Shakespeare Rd and Browning St in Napier.
Gifted by the New Zealand Federation of New Zealand Women s Institutes, the statue is a centennial tribute to their founder, who was a local through and through. Indeed, Jerome Spencer held the first meeting of a New Zealand Women s Institute at Omatua at Rissington, Hawke s Bay on February 27, 1921.

What a joy to sit in my favorite chair with a hot cup of tea on a cold winter’s day and enjoy the Music Theatre of Connecticut’s (MTC) virtual streaming of the one woman show “Becoming Dr. Ruth” by Mark St. Germain. Streaming is so convenient, especially when it’s a snowy, cold day accented with windchill. MTC, located in Norwalk, warms the heart with this often humorous and sometimes heart piercing account of survival and success.
The core challenge that the industry is facing is transformation in the area of automation adoption, among others.
It has been 29 years since the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) started its operations, but it remains ever true and passionate to its vision of being the lead organisation that develops the Malaysian timber industry into a world leader in the manufacture and trade of timber products.
This determination is reflected in its Five-Year Plan (2019-2023), which lays out MTC’s strategic direction in the planning of its programmes and activities, aligned with its vision and mission.
The plan is made up of four key thrusts and 14 focus areas to address pressing challenges, with seven must-wins to achieve for 2021.
WHILE the Covid-19 pandemic has undoubtedly affected every industry, Malaysia remains one of the world’s top suppliers of timber and timber products, the raw materials of which are sourced from either sustainable or legal sources to meet ever-increasing global demand.
