The FAA said it did not yet have information about the number of people on board and that it did not have reports of injuries of people on the ground.
The pilot was reportedly the only person on board and his status has not yet been confirmed as a fatality according to a Sheriff’s Office spokesman. Chris Bourquin, the acting chief of police of Del Rey Oaks, which also covers the airport, described the crash as “not survivable,” the Monterey Herald reported.
Priolo said several fire engines were at the scene to battle the blaze and that crews with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection had extinguished the small brush fire.

Plane crash sparks wildland fire off Highway 68 in Monterey County
A small plane crashed into a Monterey County home Tuesday morning, causing a fire and damage to the structure and nearby wildlands.
The crash was reported just after 10:45 a.m. near Highway 68 in the Monterra Ranch subdivision. The home the plane crashed into caught on fire, which spread to the surrounding wildlands, Monterey County Regional Fire Department officials said.
The incident pulled resources from across Monterey County, including Monterey and Seaside fire departments and Cal Fire. Four engines headed out to the scene already, and another three have been requested.
