FAIRMONT â City Council held two public hearings about its Home Rule Plan at Tuesdayâs meeting.
âThe City of Fairmont desires via itâs proposed Home Rule Plan amendment to expand itâs business and occupation tax credits to provide credits for which are unrelated to new and or expanding businesses,â said Valerie Means, Fairmont city manager.
The City of Fairmont created expanded B&O tax credits through its original approved Home Rule Plan in 2014. The amendment presented Tuesday would offer additional credits against the construction B&O taxes for residential development within the city.

FAIRMONT â Tuesday night Mayor Tom Mainella read a statement on behalf of employees, council and residents honoring Black History Month.
In 1976, as part of the nationâs bicentennial, Black History Week was expanded and established nationally as Black History Month to empathize and pay tribute to the historical and cultural contributions made by African Americans to the U.S.
Deputy Mayor Donna Blood said Black history is American history. She said we are one nation, and Black history is often overlooked.
âI hope weâre on a new beginning with new insight and that everyone will be equal. It was a beautiful resolution,â said Blood.
