NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Monday awarded death sentence to Ariz Khan, convicted for the murder of police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma and other offences in connection with the 2008 Batla House encounter. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 11 lakh on Khan and directed Rs 10 lakh be immediately released to deceased inspector Sharma’s family.

New Delhi, March 15 : The prosecution on Monday sought death penalty for Ariz Khan, an alleged Indian Mujahideen terrorist, in the 2008 Batla House encounter, while the counsel for the convict sought leniency on the ground of his young age.
Additional Sessions Judge Sandeep Yadav will pronounce the order on the sentencing at 4 p.m.
On March 8, the court had convicted Khan in the case, noting that he murdered encounter specialist and Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma.

New Delhi [India], March 15 (ANI): The Delhi Police on Monday urged a Delhi Court to award the death penalty to convict Ariz Khan in the 2008 Batla House encounter case.
Representing the Delhi Police, Senior Public Prosecutor AT Ansari told Additional Sessions Judge Sandeep Yadav that this is a gruesome murder of a law enforcement officer and defender of justice while discharging his duty and therefore a serious exercise is required to be undertaken in this case for determining the quantum of sentence.
Ansari further said that exemplary punishment in the case is required and urged the Delhi Court to award a death sentence to convict Ariz Khan.
