Morristown election day underway

Election Day is here for the city of Morristown. The city of Morristown is holding election for three City Council seats with two seats having opposition and the last seat being unopposed. Current City Councilmember Bob Garrett faces challenger Rob Burke for the Ward 1 seat, while Councilmember Kay Senter is being challenged by Charles Cook for the Ward 3 seat. Councilmember Tommy Pedigo is running unopposed for an at-large seat. Polls opened at 8 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m. A threat of storms are forecasted to come through the area throughout the day with a chance of precipitation at 60%, according to the National Weather Service. The threat of rain could lead to lower voter turnout, election officials said.

Chamber of Commerce to host political forum at WSCC

The Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a candidate forum Tuesday for those running for the Morristown city election at Walters State Community College. Those running for election include Rob Burke and current City Councilman Bob Garrett for Ward 1, Charles Cook and current City Councilwoman Kay Senter in Ward 3 and Tommy Pedigo, whose running unopposed, for an at-large seat. The forum will be held 7 p.m. at the Lyceum in Walters State and all candidates have agreed to participate, the chamber said. Chamber Board President Steve Amos will welcome the candidates and guests to the forum and the format will be explained by Legislative Affairs Co-Chair Keith Andrews.

Field for Morristown election set

There are three city council seats up for grabs this election. At large councilmeber Tommy Pedigo will have another four term as he is unchallenged for his seat. In Ward 1, Rob Burke has qualified to run against incumbent city councilmember Bob Garrett. In Ward 3, Charles Cook has again qualified to run for office, this time facing long-time incumbent Kay Senter. The seven city council seats are staggered. The other four will be on the ballot in two years.
