Biden wind energy projects outsourcing jobs to Europe

Joe Biden has promised that his push for renewable energy will create more manufacturing jobs for Americans. He was reported saying, “there is simply no reason the blades for wind turbines can’t be built in Pittsburgh instead of Beijing. No reason.”
Except, in reality, most of the manufacturing jobs will actually be created in Europe.
The Vineyard Wind project, off the coast of Massachusetts, is expected to produce enough electricity to power 400,000 homes in New England by 2023. The windfarm is a joint venture between Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Avangrid Inc. which is part of the Iberdrola group.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and the Department of Defense have reached an agreement to lease 399-square miles off California’s central coast for offshore wind development.
An area of Morro Bay in central California will support 3GW of offshore wind and the Humbolt Call Area will be considered as a potential offshore wind area.
“This announcement provides a clear path for offshore wind’s expansion to the West Coast and is a vital milestone for many major industry stakeholders,” said Liz Burdock, president and CEO of the Business Network for Offshore Wind.
“As the fifth largest economy in the world, the global offshore wind industry has been waiting for California to open. I commend Governor Newsom and his team for working diligently with Congress and the Administration to accomplish this important milestone.”

The long-stalled push to build massive wind farms in the Atlantic Ocean along the U.S. East Coast took a crucial step forward Tuesday as the Biden administration approved plans for a project off Martha’s Vineyard.
The $2.8 billion installation proposed by Vineyard Wind LLC will be the first major wind farm in waters off the U.S., which has lagged behind Europe and Asia in generating power at sea. It sets the stage for other developers seeking approval to build more than a dozen other wind projects from Massachusetts to North Carolina.
