With fewer than 500 ballots left to count following Tuesday’s special election for an open seat on the Orange County Board of Supervisors, the final vote tallies for each of five candidates in the race are falling into place.
Figures last updated by the Orange County Registrar of Voters showed turnout was higher than anticipated, with about 28% of the 395,296 voters in Supervisorial District 2 casting 110,612 ballots. Of those, nearly 95% were vote-by-mail, while 5,671 constituents visited in-person vote centers, records indicate.
While initial returns released Tuesday night showed Costa Mesa Mayor Katrina Foley ahead of the pack with 45% of the vote, her lead over the second highest vote-getter, former state Sen. John Moorlach, had shrunk by Friday evening.

On Election Day, Former Supervisor Michelle Steel Reflects on Role
As voters cast ballots for a vacant Orange County Board of Supervisors (BOS) seat, its former holder is sharing hopes for her replacement.
It’s been about two months since U.S. Congresswoman Michelle Steel left her District 2 seat for higher office. During an interview with The Epoch Times, she said she would like the incoming supervisor to carry forward her legacy of reducing homelessness, fighting for lower taxes, and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
“I hope that the new supervisor coming in works hard,” Steel said March 9. “And if you have to fight, you really have to fight against anybody who hurts our constituents.”

Hard-Fought Orange County Supervisor Race Winds Down
Orange County Board of Supervisors candidates were gearing up for election night Tuesday night as officials prepared to count ballots.
With polls closing at 8 p.m., the Orange County Registrar of Voters will provide its first unofficial results announcement at 8:05 p.m., spokesperson Jackie Wu told The Epoch Times.
Candidates for the vacant District 2 seat include: Costa Mesa Valley Mayor Katrina Foley, Fountain Valley Mayor Michael Vo, Newport Beach Councilman Kevin Muldoon, former state senator John Moorlach, and tax attorney Janet Rappaport.
Moorlach, who is also a former District 2 senator, jokingly The Epoch Times that he was on “pins and needles” as far as the results, but added he has received plenty of election day support.
