Microsoft rolls out Windows 10 build 21390 in the Dev channel with new icons May 26, 2021 13:09 EDT with 16 comments
After a few weeks of not meeting the usual Wednesday schedule for new Windows 10 builds, Microsoft seems to be back on track this week, with build 21390 heading out to Insiders today. It s a small jump from build 21387 released last week, but that makes sense considering it was rolled out on a Friday.
Because there have been fewer internal builds since the last release, there are also even fewer changes than usual. Not that there s been a lot, as it appears that Microsoft is locking down feature additions for the next Windows 10 feature update, which is expected to arrive in the second half of the year. Builds have been coming from the co release branch, and this week is no exception. There are only a couple of new things in this build:
Microsoft releases Windows 10 Build 21387 retires Internet Explorer
Earlier in the week, Microsoft began to roll out the Windows 10 May 2021 Update (21H1) to all, although there are some known issues with it to be aware of.
Although that feature update is now out in the wild, work continues apace on future updates of the operating system, and today the software giant brings Build 21387 to Insiders in the Dev Channel.

The biggest change here is that Internet Explorer 11 is now retired as of this build. It was something we were expecting after news broke earlier in the week.
Also in this flight, Microsoft is turning off the Eco mode feature in Task Manager in order to fix issues and refine the experience .

It s been some time since Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 build on its typical Wednesday schedule, and if you were hoping this would be the week we go back to normal, it isn t. Microsoft has released another Friday build, this time being number 21387, and just like the past few releases, this one comes from the co release branch, not rs prerelease.
While we still don t know whether these builds will be part of the next feature update for Windows 10, the fact that they re coming from a release branch does suggest we may be getting closer to a stable build. In fact, there hasn t been a whole lot that s new in each build, and that s the case this week, too. This build only comes with minor changes, such as temporarily disabling Eco mode in Task Manager:
Microsoft releases Windows 10 Build 21382 with HDR improvements for creative apps like Adobe Photoshop and CorelDraw
Just in time for the start of the weekend, a brand new Windows 10 build arrives for those Insiders in the Dev Channel.
The big new addition in this build is HDR support in color managed apps, but there are plenty of other changes, improvements and fixes to be found in the flight.
Explaining the HDR addition, Microsoft’s Brandon LeBlanc says:
HDR mode changes the behavior of some creative and artistic apps that use International Color Consortium (ICC) display color profiles, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom Classic, and CorelDraw (amongst others). In the past, these apps were limited to targeting the sRGB color gamut.
